Pencil Points: Mongol 482 Natural Wood Finish
Natural Wood Finish Mongol 482 HB pencil
- Right away, customers will notice the completely unlaquered finish and the beautiful woodgrains that make up the finish. It's definitely an attractive writing instrument. Mongol's signature black and brass ferrule lends a vintage feel to it, like you should be sitting it next to an old manual typewriter.
- The pencil smells wonderful, like pulling an old blanket out of a cedar cabinet.
- It's extremely lightweight, but almost to an excess — it feels unsubstantial.
- The lead is dark, strong, and yet the point stays sharpened longer.
- Overall: 4 out of 5 points.
This is a great pencil. One of the best looking,too--that brass band and wood grain are classy!

Most natural wood pencils have a clear lacquer coat for two reasons: (1) lacquer provides the hard base needed for a uniform hot foil identification imprint; and (2) lacquer prevents absorption by the wood of natural hand oils and other “colorations” introduced by the user. But the warm, tactile sense of holding bare wood is worth it!
